Australian Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev has described the crowd at Rod Laver Arena as “disrespectful” after his loss toMedvedev had little support from fans throughout the two weeks and, at times, played up to being the villain. He complained to the umpires in several matches about interruptions from fans, including during the final as the majority of the crowd cheered Nadal towards his 21st grand slam title.
The Russian No. 3 seed, speaking at his press conference at 2.20am, said he was “no longer the kid who dreamed” of his experiences at Melbourne Park, which included beating fan favourites Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitsipas in matches that saw fans heavily against him.
He said he didn’t get that same silence before his serves. “It was disappointing. It’s disrespectful. I’m not sure after 30 years I’m going to want to play tennis anymore,” he said. “That’s great. Hopefully, we’ll try to get more people to go for us, but I can definitely see when you’re playing somebody from the other country, they would go for them and not for a Russian.”
rpjward Option A) behave like a spoilt, petulant brat & let the crowd react how they want. Option B) behave like a respectful, professional athlete (like Ash or Rafa) & let the crowd react how they want.
rpjward Sorry don’t be worries about fans you are very good you deserve to win but , tennis now is all bad politics
rpjward Boohoo call a friend 'Vladimir Putin'
rpjward It’s totally no class to boo this guy walking on the court. A bad look for Australia to have so many bums in attendance.
rpjward Alarming to see media in all its forms attacks or favours the person, not the issues ?
rpjward Part of the professional game is managing the crowd gracefully. What made Novak great is his ability to absorb the crowd against Rafa and Roger. Wow it's deblitating dealing with a pro Roger crowd, you see it all the time. Being distracted was a small lapse in maturity.
rpjward In every game he played, he had two opponents, the player and the crowd. It's not easy to cope with constant booing. He played some amazing Tennis imo and he is the future after the top trio fade out.

rpjward AO22 has been absolute shambles from start to finish. Politicians removing tournament’s biggest star ever and xenophobic crowds embarrassing us on the global stage.
rpjward Hmmm, he should stop his crybaby altercations with the chair umpire to start with. Crowd WAS unruly, but when a player starts whining about the ball boys/girls, it tends to take a jaundiced view of the player’s behaviour. He’s as arrogant as NoVax and people see that.
rpjward I think it drove him......his on the brink of having a big run of majors himself. When he starts winning, Australians will come around and kiss his Arse.
rpjward Australians are disgraceful, biased and rude and certainly disrespectful. Australians are also brainwashed by Western media against Russians.
rpjward I’m pleased Rafa won, but the crowd was a disgrace. Australians seem to have issues showing respect (and extends beyond sport). It’s shameful, really.
rpjward We aren't here to support him. Have sook cos you lost..
rpjward That’s a bit rich. Mouthing “boring” during a speech in the final ceremony is disrespectful.
rpjward He needs to grow up. It will take him time to earn the love of the crowds around the world like Rafa
rpjward Possibly it’s due to build up of anger at the way Covid restrictions have been handle. Venting their frustrations is other areas of life.
rpjward Two words , not personal Ukraine & Putin
rpjward Respect is earned not given
rpjward Medvedev can gain the full crowd with 3 words... 'I SUPPORT UKRAINE'
rpjward Boo hoo
rpjward I reckon he’d have had plenty of support if he’d been playing Djokovic
rpjward Crowd was cheap but then again it's Australia not USA.
rpjward The crowd was absolutely terrible. Someone even invaded the Court at one point. Their behaviour was throwing the players off their game. It wasn't only the finals. They did it in the men's doubles too. Deliberately hooting and hollering to throw off a player's serve.
rpjward I don’t watch tennis but I do Twitter and this bloke seems an awful lot like Kyrgios did when he was a young man .. before Nick grew up. Medvedev might want to reflect on his own behavior perhaps.
rpjward Maybe he should try not carrying on like a pork chop. Being polite goes a long way down here. Hats off to Medvedev to make it so far. But he needs to work on his temper.
rpjward You need to earn respect, Daniil. Not just demand it.
rpjward This is why Australia doesn’t deserved to have any big sporting events! Disgraceful
rpjward Saying boring to a speech is not respectful either.
rpjward Bogans booing! The AustralianOpen lost its shine back in 2021.
rpjward No worries, next year will be worse, he already have it here.
rpjward I think he is taking it too much to heart. Against another opponent he might be the crowd favourite, but he needs to get the crowd onside too. He is obviously an intelligent guy and should use some of the intelligence to his advantage off the court. Plenty of time to change this.
rpjward His rant against the umpire in the semi was nothing short of a disgrace and he wants to talk about respect?
rpjward I wonder why the audience is against him
rpjward Being a cock will bring you down every time mate.
rpjward It is not actually about the little support. It is about how disrespectful the AusOpen crowd has been through out the entire competiotion. It's not him the problem. It's them.
rpjward Que friooooo 🥶,cómo vas a perder ese partido!!!!
rpjward I agree with him. Goodness me, imagine if Djokovic stayed.
