Australian Open 2022 LIVE updates: Rafael Nadal chases grand slam title 21 in men’s final against Daniil Medvedev

Medvedev has the break after holding serve and then punishing Nadal’s serve in the next game. It’s a warm evening here in Melbourne after a hot day so the temperature is still around 28 degrees in the stadium and a little more on centre court.

The crowd is packed in and there is a nice buzz, a little more chilled than the Barty final last night. Most people are with Nadal but also cheering for Medvedev although there is a vocal few Russian fans calling out for their man.Nadal had to fight off a breakpoint in that last game as Medvedev looked to take charge of this set but Nadal came up with some canny shots to make sure he kept alive.

Nadal leads 2-1 with the set still on serve, that last game went almost 10 minutes, surely this will wear down Nadal if he can’t win his service games a little quicker.Medvedev was so smooth in his opening service game hitting powerfully and commanding the points.Daniil Medvedev.
