Shell's massive floating LNG factory off the Kimberley coast has been in shutdown since February and analysts are divided on whether the multi-billion-dollar facility has a future.

as forecast costs went stratospheric, Shell was already building Prelude in a Korean shipyard.

But even with a vessel that dwarfs the massive LNG ships it is supposed to offload to, cramming an LNG facility, staff accommodation, and all the other services onto Prelude, has been troubled.It was expected to export 3.6 million tonnes of LNG each year. Shell also declined to say when Prelude would restart production, but said a process was in its final stages.

Even if it starts up as a single string operation it will always be a challenge, it would be prudent and cost effective to give the facility to Woodside to operate they have the operational, technical and logistical experience to run such facilities. Shell

Simple solution.,... Rebuild it into the Worlds biggest Aircraft Carrier, Australias first., I China is such a threat then this is the perfect platform to project Australias 'National Interest' in Asia.!

'with no land based approvals needed, floating LNG seemed to solve the problems'. Here we have an example of the true cost of all the excessive regulations in Australia.
