For the budget conscious, the cost of the weekly shop is a constant headache. However, it really does pay to seek out the cheapest supermarket. Here's the proof.

Let’s face it, grocery shopping is the predominant social outing of the COVID-19 era.

However, as fun as comparing unit prices is, by far the biggest choice anyone confronts as a grocery shopper is which store to walk into in the first place. So, I decided to run an experiment at my local shopping centre, which happens to be home to both Aldi and Coles supermarkets. It was only 58 cents for my shop but avoid it if you can by inserting a debit card and pay by eftpos, or paying in cash. This week, I repeated the exercise at Coles, purchasing the same 40 items in the same quantities. In every instance, I sourced the cheapest product available, usually a Coles homebrand product.

At home, I made myself a spreadsheet. Given the difficulty in weighing the exact same quantities of fresh fruit and vegetables, I simply used the Aldi weights as my baseline and priced them at the Coles price for my price comparison. Before I reveal my final results, I must digress at this point to expose to you the greatest yoghurt-related scandal of our age.

It actually depends on what you buy and how much of it in most circumstances...

The one thing not factored in was the (eventual) 5% discount Coles give through their FlyBuys programme. And that's the minimum; there are many opportunities to boost the total number of FlyBuys point overall

The quicker JobKeeper is removed 'the better' | Sky News AustraliaAi Group CEO Innes Willox says the quicker JobKeeper is removed the better as Australia is still running “a two-speed economy”.\n\nOn Thursday the ABS released August’s jobs figures showing a decrease in the unemployment rate to 6.8 per cent.\n\nHowever, the majority of jobs added were part-time, meaning fewer hours were worked which results in lower productivity and lower output.\n\n“Although those were really promising figures yesterday, the next six months are going to pretty tough as we come off JobKeeper,” Mr Willox told Sky News.\n\n“People do have to start trying to find their way back into the workforce.\n\n“Employers need to start trying to find ways to employ again.” Dear Australia, I am happy to debate this. For those on Job Keeper / Seeker, The Government WILL NEVER remove keeper / seeker. Yes it will change name, may even reduce a small amount for publicity sake, but they will NEVER remove it. Why? Number of Hours worked WONT recover another Tory sticking their UNWANTED noses into Australian political decisions.. Innes Willox and The_AiGroup do not work in the interests of Australians or Australia. He is an apologist for rent seekers, oligopolies, cartels and donors. Mass immigration wage suppression is his agenda & not building a productive sustainable economy with real jobs and growth.
