All that 31-year-old Adam needed was 'the internet and a laptop' to allegedly steal $11 million in pay from unsuspecting people across Australia

Originally from South Australia, Mr Jones was arrested at a public library in Green Square in Sydney on Wednesday after authorities closed in on the alleged scheme targeting victims in NSW, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.

The alleged fraud involved a folder containing identity documents for one individual. Using these Mr Jones allegedly created email, phone and bank accounts in their name. In another example he allegedly photoshopped a selfie of an unknown female to be used as proof of identity to open a cryptocurrency account.

Authorities estimate Adam Jones allegedly gained more than $11 million through the co-ordinated identity theft. After Mr Jones' arrest on Wednesday, detectives raided his home in Erskineville, where he has been living with his partner, as well as his former home in Newtown.
