Australian paceman James Pattinson announces he is retiring from Test cricket after 21 matches and 81 wickets for his country.

Pattinson played 21 Tests for Australia and took 81 wickets.

The 31-year-old burst onto the Test cricket scene in 2011, taking 26 wickets in his first five Tests. But his career was regularly stalled by injuries, meaning he never played more than five Tests in a year. He made his Test debut against New Zealand in 2011, delivering what would prove to be his best Test figures of 5-27 in the second innings. In a statement, Cricket Australia said Pattinson was retiring from international cricket, although he had not played T20 internationals or ODIs in several years.

"Leading into pre-season I really wanted to give the Ashes a crack but in the end I haven’t had the preparation I would have liked heading into the coming season,” Pattinson said in the statement."I didn’t want to be in a position of battling with my body when you need to be 100 per cent fit and ready to go at any time. That would not be fair to myself or the team."

Disappointing but he's done the right thing. Pattinson is 31, after all, and his retirement clears the way for emerging quicks like Richardson, Neser, Steketee, etc.

Sorry to hear this. Gun player. Never got a clear run at it.

Cricket community calls on ICC to protect human rights in AfghanistanAs Afghanistan takes part in the men's T20 World Cup, there is pressure growing on the International Cricket Council to take a stand on human rights issues in the country. Pity their soldiers didn't think that when they handed their guns over to the Taliban and walked away. Let’s be careful here we are horrified by the way women are treated by the Taliban and rightly so Australia Cricket should boycott Afghanistan but Cricket it self can be a door to show them that women through out the world are respected and valued to participate in sports 🤓🤓 I'm afraid it won't make a difference to the Taliban. We are talking about 'early middle ages' psychology here.
