Victoria’s low case numbers and improved contact tracing capabilities have placed the state in a position to reopen on the same track as New South Wales, says Health Minister Greg Hunt. The state’s 14-day rolling average dropped below seven cases, while the rolling three-day average dropped below three. “That’s what really matters,” Mr Hunt told Sky News. “It gives us a chance to help Victoria return to a predominantly open environment on the same basis as NSW with similar case numbers.

Priest slams Daniel Andrews for logical inconsistency in Victorian lockdown laws | Sky News AustraliaRector of Newman College at Melbourne University Father Frank Brennan says the discrepancies in the current lockdown laws in Melbourne which allow 70 to attend a pub, but only 20 a faith service, “make no sense”.\n\n“We’re left with question that, if for example, you had a group of 70 Christians or 70 Muslims, or an ecumenical group gathered at the pub, and they decided, well, we’ve had a drink, let’s go back over the road and say a prayer, well they’re being told, the 70 of you can no longer do that.”\n\n“It makes no sense,” he said. \n\n“I think what’s needed is just rational discussion about this.”\n\nFr Brennan pointed to the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities and observed “there’s nothing in the charter about the right to go to the library, or the right to go to the pool, or the right to go to the restaurant, or the right to go to the pub”.\n\n“But there is a particular provision about the right to practice your religion, and not to be restrained in worship observance or practice,” he said. \n\nEarlier this week Premier Daniel Andrews said it was important to recognise what could happen in a “licensed, heavily regulated environment” was different to “what might happen indoors in a faith setting”.\n\nCommenting on this statement, Fr Brennan said, “with all respect to the premier, I‘d say, I think you got this one wrong and I think you should concede that it’s quite possible'\n\n'I think what’s implicit in what he said is, you can’t trust religious people to do what they’d do in a restaurant,' he said..\n\n“Which is my original point, some of the people in the restaurant, they’re religious people, and just as they will act responsibly in the restaurant, so too they’ll act responsibly in the Church, and in the Church they’ll do even less to be socially active than in the restaurant.\n\n“I think this one is a slam dunk, even without getting to the Victorian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”\n Does this church man have a COVID safety plan approved by the health authorities? Stop the emotional rationalism and get real. None of scamdrews lockdown bullshit makes sense .

Peta Credlin dons ‘Free Melbourne’ shirt in protest of 'harder than Wuhan' lockdowns | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peta Credlin says “Melbournians have had enough”, donning a ‘Free Melbourne’ T-shirt as part of a campaign to protest the “longest and hardest lockdowns in the world”.\n\n“One Hundred per cent of the cost of this T-shirt goes to Beyond Blue,” Ms Credlin told Sky News host Alan Jones.\n\n“Melbournians have had enough, 21 weeks in of the longest and hardest lockdowns in the world, harder than Wuhan, harder than anywhere else.\n\n“Mental health is skyrocketing … we want to be safe, we want to get out of this COVID hell, we want to get our lives back to normal but we must have a pathway out.\n\n“I fear that a lot of the reasons why particularly restaurants, hospitality and those sorts of organisations can’t open up is because Daniel Andrews hasn’t done the work on contact tracing that we’re seeing in New South Wales and Queensland and everywhere else.\n\n“It’s just one more of a litany of failures of this government.”\n I don't care if if is cable, Credlin flashing is indecent. Had enough of you clowns....dont speak for me Idiot alert! A mad parrot and an unconscious Incompetent female on the loose. Avoid at all costs and disregard all their comments.

Daniel Andrews is trying to ‘parade himself as the saviour’ of Victoria | Sky News AustraliaDaniel Andrews continuing to do his daily press conferences is presumably an attempt to “parade himself as the saviour” of Victoria rather than the person responsible for the whole debacle, according to Chris Kenny.\n\n“I reckon he should take time off, go for a walk around Melbourne, see the empty shops, see the people rushing home from the park in their masks before they are fined, see the destruction, desolation and social decay that his response to the coronavirus has delivered,” Mr Kenny said.\n\n“But he keeps doing pressers. Presumably this is an attempt to forge his leadership image, make a martyr of himself and parade himself as the savior of the state, rather than the bloke who messed up the whole show”.\n\nMr Kenny said the daily press conferences – which have ticked over 105 consecutive days – “cultivate a sense of crisis” and are predicated on the idea Victorians need a daily update.\n\n“That is simply not the case,” he said.\n\n“This whole focus isolates the premier, and keeps him focussed on his own obsession.”\n DanielAndrewsMP Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. If he wasn't doing them he'd be getting bagged for that. DanielAndrewsMP Ruby Princess. DanielAndrewsMP

Andrews floats 'dark opening' for Victoria next week | Sky News AustraliaPremier Daniel Andrews has revealed Victoria may have a 'dark opening' from Sunday based on how case numbers are tracking heading into the weekend. \n\nMr Andrews alluded to bringing restriction-easing forward before the slated November 1 date – stating a dark opening would potentially allow retail businesses, restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs to open for a couple of days early next week. \n\n'We want to look at numbers as they unfold next week,' he said.\n\n'I'll stand here on Sunday and hopefully be able to confirm when it comes to retail, pubs, restaurants, cafes, bars, as well as a number of other settings that we can have what's been termed a 'dark opening' for the first one or two days next week.\n\n'And then we can be up and running from then. It's not appropriate for us to try and bring that forward, that is essentially based on trying to bring this forward from November 1.'\n\nMr Andrews confirmed restrictions would not be eased ahead of Saturday's AFL Grand Final, appealing to Victorians not to selfishly place their interests ahead of the Victorian community. DanielAndrewsMP Dark opening? Ok I'm dumb, but I not know what this means Please explain? DanielAndrewsMP hangemhigh DanielAndrewsMP

Andrews: Working from home unlikely to change in Victoria before 2021 | Sky News AustraliaPremier Daniel Andrews says working from home will likely remain an entrenched feature of his coronavirus management plan until the beginning of next year.\n\n“Obviously, indoors is more risky than outdoors,’ the premier said, adding “this is not like a restaurant where you might be there for a couple of hours”.\n\n“People are there for a whole working day”.\n\n“You have shared spaces with much larger numbers of people; people in lifts, people in common areas and then, of course, there is the small matter of people getting to work”.\n\nThe premier also noted “public transport at 75 per cent, or 85 per cent, or 100 per cent of patronage presents some very significant challenges to us”.\n\n“It is best to plan I think for, if you can work from home you must work from home, being a feature of 2020.\n

Inquiry into Victoria's hotel quarantine 'doesn't have that desire to uncover truth' | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Rita Panahi says the inquiry into Victoria’s hotel quarantine “just doesn’t have that desire to uncover the truth that you would expect a board of inquiry to have.”\n\nHer comments come after the inquiry into Victoria's failed hotel quarantine program held an extraordinary hearing on Tuesday to unravel conflicting evidence.\n\nChief Health Officer Brett Sutton has come under increasing pressure to produce a coherent narrative after he testified before the inquiry saying he had nothing to do with the hotel quarantine scheme and specifically was not aware private security guards were being used until July. \n\nEmails from the department of health indicate he was aware potentially as early as May and is likely to be hauled back before the inquiry to provide further evidence.\n\nMr Sutton has been asked to submit an affidavit as the hotel quarantine inquiry seeks an explanation as to why key emails weren't tendered.\n\nThe inquiry on Tuesday “was something better than what we’ve seen in recent weeks,” Ms Panahi said. \n\n“They’re close to doing their job. \n\n“It just doesn’t have that desire to uncover the truth that you would expect a board of inquiry to have.\n\n“There’s plenty of people who should be called back.\n\n“And when they’re there, they should be questioned forensically and strongly, not just have their statements read back to them and have them agree with it.”\n RitaPanahi RitaPanahi spot on as always.
