An Imam in Western Australia spoke on behalf of the Muslim community in Perth to condemn the “act of violence” which saw a man in his 30s stabbed by a radicalised teenager in a Bunnings carpark in Willeton.

A Western Australian Imam has condemned the “act of violence” which led to police shooting dead a radicalised 16-year-old boy after he stabbed a man in his 30s in a Bunnings carpark in Willetton , Perth .

On Sunday, Nasir Mosque Imam Syed Wadood Janud thanked the police who responded to quickly mitigate the situation instead of letting it “transpire like it did in the east coast”, referencing the stabbing attack in Bondi Junction last month. “Islam is a religion that teaches us that even if a single life is hurt, even if a single innocent life is lost, it is as though the whole of humanity is lost and it is as though the whole of humanity has suffered,” Imam Janud said.

“It’s not only concerning, it’s shocking, and I think members of the community are still coming to terms with it.” WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch confirmed the knife wielding teenager then lunged at police and was subsequently shot dead. Picture: Supplied
