Senator Lisa Singh says fourth place on the Labor ticket was a bridge too far to cross, and wants Labor to get rid of any intimidatory preselection processes.

At the double-dissolution election in 2016, she pulled off the almost impossible, picking up more than 20,000 first preference votes to be re-elected from the sixth spot on Labor's ticket.

This year, she received almost 19,984 first preference votes in the half-Senate election, or 5.7 per cent, which was more than any other Tasmanian Senate candidate.'I really was up against it'Senator Singh said people were tired of slanging matches in politics. "I think those comments were very misguided, and I think that's some of the negative view of politics that people are pretty much sick of, to be honest," she said.

Senator Singh said she had campaigned hard and thanked the almost 20,000 Tasmanians who voted below the line for her."I really was up against it." "Of course in 2016, that was the most historic win and Tasmanians came out in droves to re-elect me then, but I knew this time would be different, it would be much more difficult and I think it was just a bridge too far to cross."Senator Singh said Labor should use its federal election loss to examine its preselection processes and how they could be made more democratic.

Farewell befitting a brilliant larrikin leaderA fitting farewell for the brilliant larrikin PM who came to embody quintessential Australianness in a way unmatched since Bob Hawke and Paul Keating were the last Labor politicians that I have had great respect for.

John Setka has 'bought the naming rights' to Coalition's union-busting billLabor has driven a long and winding road with the unions but Anthony Albanese has taken an important U-turn. Has the ABC forgotten how to analyse policy? All I ever see is pseudoanalysis of political drama and intrigue. Its shallow and ultimately meaningless. 'John Setka is giving fresh amo to the Coalition's union cleansing bill' Ok team, can we see anything wrong here.. 🧐 That's a joke.

Australia has spent $700m to curb domestic violence — but it's unclear if it's workingAfter almost a decade of action and more than $700 million spent, a scathing review raises concerns about the effectiveness of Australia's domestic violence strategy. It's not because they won't address male victims. Because of people like Setka. Evidence based policy (and spending) is what we need. Sadly our leaders and evidence are not good bedfellows. Maybe if we all pray with ScottMorrisonMP things will fix themselves? nah
