The fiance of Australian life coach Justine Ruszczyk Damond choked back tears on the witness stand while recounting the night he discovered his future wife had been shot dead by a police officer outside their Minnesota home.
Noor fatally shot Ruszczyk in July 2017 after she called police to report a possible sexual assault happening near her home in Minneapolis. The 40-year old was barefoot and wearing pyjamas at the time.If found guilty, Noor will be the first police officer in Minnesota's history to be sent to jail for killing a civilian.The trial began on Tuesday, local time, with opening statements from the prosecution and defence legal teams followed by three hours of emotional testimony from Damond.
"I was in shock," Damond said, recounting the moment he learned that his fiance was dead. "I was shaking. I said, 'Please treat her body with dignity.'" Don Damond hugs a loved one prior to a memorial service for his fiancee, Justine Damond, in August last year.He said Ruszczyk called him to say she had heard distressing noises and feared that a woman may have been being raped in an alley near their house.
