Simone Biles has thanked her supporters for the backing she has received since withdrawing from the women’s team gymnastics final at the Tokyo Olympics.
USA Gymnastics said Biles, who also pulled out of the all-around competition, would use the time to focus on her mental health. "The outpouring [of] love and support I've received has made me realize I'm more than my accomplishments and gymnastics which I never truly believed before," Biles tweeted a short time ago.USA Gymnastics said Biles would be evaluated daily before deciding whether she would participate in next week's individual events.
Biles qualified for the finals on all four apparatuses, something she didn't even do during her five-medal haul in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.The 24-year-old spent a part of Wednesday evening watching American teammates Sam Mikulak and Brody Malone compete in the men's all-around finals."We've had some conversations [and] she seems like she's doing what's best for her," Mikulak said.
"It's awesome to see that she's gotten to go against the pressure of society and do what's best for herself."
