A weather system thousands of kilometres away is at least partly responsible for NSW's deadly bushfire crisis, which has taken hold amid dreadful conditions in dozens of locations around the state.

The drought has also made regional towns particularly vulnerable to damage, according to Justin Leonard, who leads the bushfire adaptation research at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation .

"People may not be completely aware that those dry conditions also mean that your house and all the things around it — the fences, retaining walls and ground covers — are also much drier than they normally would be," he said. The fires have been so intense, they have created their own weather systems.

Port Macquarie residents described"apocalyptic" conditions where embers and ash fell from the red skies as thick dark smoke engulfed the regional centre. For similar reasons, storm clouds appear above an erupting volcano, the combination of heat and wind creates a convection effect which resembles a hellscape for the people within.

So it isn't climate change/global warming, the Russians or aliens... interesting

Tell those dudes in India to stop making their hot weather, assuming that they can, or anyone else can.

Waiting for the ABC to link Adani in India and Adani in Australia as the root cause.

Go there and harass them to stop building 150 coal fired power stations ... go on ... f*** off to India and harass them with the climatechangehoax

It sucks when the wind blows the wrong way, from the north east it is right off the desert so hot and dry, shift in only 90 degrees and you get warm and very moist sea air that brings a lot of rain.

So we can anticipate Extinction Rebellion protesters heading to India to glue themselves to the Taj Mahal & perhaps the grandstands at a couple of Indian cricket grounds.

The government needs to be held responsible for ignoring a report that indicated the fires would be devastating, for refusing to sit with nsw fire fighters and for cutting 35% of the funding to the NSW fire services in the middle of a drought. Scomo should go to prison for this.

It's called climate change.

Some may say the ABC are very slow learners, when it comes to discovering the weather, but i could not possibly comment.

thanks. there are about 5000 people on twitter blaming the PM for the fires.

What, You mean global weather and climate are one big interconnected system. No way. Who would've thunk it

.emmabeaumusic this might help to understand what is going on. My husband left for India today. From hot, dry Brisbane to flooding Mumbai. That will be interesting for him.
