The NBL's newest team, the SEMelbPhoenix are determined not to be another headstone in the graveyard of failed Aussie expansion franchises. A big reason they appear likely to succeed is star player, Mitch Creek, writes MelanieDinjaski 🏀 NBL20 9WWOS

"I love our COD sessions. It's good fun and team building."

It also helps that the Phoenix are undefeated after the first two rounds - something few predicted would happen at the beginning of this season, and an achievement only one other expansion team in NBL history has done. "The wins didn't surprise me, but it's how we've come together. We have no egos and it's something you don't see often on a team. We have guys that don't care about stats, and it's cliché but really this team play for each other. That's what I've noticed the most, and I think that's why we've had this early success."The Phoenix aren't ready to count their chickens just yet though.

Pineau, who played the last few seasons with the Sydney Kings but was "super excited" to return home to Melbourne, said he was especially moved when he saw the green-clad fans at their home opener.
