Analysis: How do we tackle Australia’s burning problem before it burns us? | KetanJ0

at the request of the British government found that the path to achieving net zero emissions by the year 2050 across the planet requires fundamental shifts in politics, economics and technology.

Can you picture, in your mind, how Australia’s political and media structures might react to the suggestion of a ban on combustion engine sales by 2035? Scenarios like those released by the IEA make waves because they nudge us into considering in detail what we mean by “transformative” or “radical”. The report’s finding that no new oil and gas fields or coal mines ought to be approved for development from here on sent the fossil fuel industry into a tailspin.

Instead of being made up of many small contributors, several very large coal plants comprise the bulk of Australia’s power emissions. Of the 10 nations with the planet’s highest emissions from fossil fuel plants, Australia has the second-highest concentration in single power plants. The top 5 per cent of fossil fuel plants are responsible for just under 90 per cent of all electricity-based carbon dioxide pollution.

The National Electricity Market, the grid that comprises the easternmost populous states, will still be 34 per cent reliant on coal in the best-case scenario by 2030, according to the Australian Energy Market Operator ‘s latest ‘Integrated System Plan’ . In the worst-case scenario, it’s 52 per cent by 2030 and 64 per cent by 2042.

Cats out of the bag: Feral animals targeted near NT national parkFeral cats kill billions of Australia's native animals each year, experts say, and a pilot program in a small Northern Territory town may be the answer to the problem. domestic cats allowed to roam kill billions too Does that mean sussanley has decided to start working FOR the environment and not against. I won't hold my breath. I love cats but they are killing machines. My guess is we can never eliminate feral cats and they shall inherit the Earth after global warming destroys the planet creating a feline civilisation always at war with the rat federation.
