An ACT magistrate throws out a case against a man found to be unlawfully arrested and slams the conduct of NSW Police officers as 'outrageous' and 'unprofessional'.

A Canberra court has heard a NSW Police officer threatened to break a man's legs during an illegal arrest by himself and another officer in the ACT.An ACT Magistrate described the conduct of two NSW police officers as "outrageous" and "unprofessional"

"I'm horrified by the conduct of these officers. How dare they come to the ACT and act this way," she said.According to the police statement of facts, Mr Watts was disqualified from driving after being convicted for drug driving in May 2019. He was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, possessing a knife, and a breach of good behaviour. But in the case before court today, defence barrister Jack Pappas argued his client had been threatened, spoken to roughly, and held against his will because the officers were not from ACT Policing and had no jurisdiction.

Mr Pappas argued the recording had been illegal as the camera's use was restricted to their duties as police in NSW — not the ACT.The prosecutor admitted the officers were not special constables in the ACT, but argued they had been acting in good faith and could not in good conscious let Mr Watts leave while they suspected he was under the influence.

"What makes this matter particularly egregious is the threat made by NSW Police to break my client's legs," Mr Taylor said.

Well done yet again ABC

'You can't conduct a citizen's arrest on suspicion,' she said.' Until the matter is proven before a court, it would always be suspicion. Does the magistrate believe that citizens can determine guilt prior to court

Outstanding outcome. FTP

😳

pigs scum thugs fifth slugs bring in the bikies to teach the cops a lesson

Or how about - ' Criminal released on technicality, Officers should be praised for Initiative' Courts and undermining public confidence in the Police! Obvious that the 'break legs' was never a serious threat!

Australian right: dictator dan wont let me go outside without a mask and cough on everyone this is ridiculous 🤬🤬🤬 Also the Australian right: oh? The officer threatened to break his legs? That’s fine, actually.

Respect your police 🇦🇺not fake news from commo ABC

Well done to the Magistrate. How have police officers suddenly taken on this untouchable demeanour across the country?

“He was arrested and charged with driving while disqualified, possessing a knife, and a breach of good behaviour” Then he was released as a victim and will seek compensation. Only in Australia and USA is the “law” so stupid.

He was resisting everyone, chill out.

No such thing as a good cop, they're crooked sooner or later.

NSW is Liberal State, they can do anything but nobody is allowed to question what they do, everything is secrete. You want hear media commenting good or bad happening in NSW. Media only reports about Victoria and Queensland.

NSW cops having yet another bad day I can’t wait for Mr Fuller to explain this one.
