Household electricity bills are tipped to fall by an average of $97, as the markets reap the benefit of new generation and the falling cost of renewable energy generation

The Australian Energy Market Commission's electricity price trends report forecast mixed results across the country.

Victorian consumers are set to save $53 over the next three years, with an annual average price drop of 1.6 per cent. The cost to retailers of the compulsory purchase of renewable generation, under the Large Scale Renewable Energy Target, is coming down as solar, wind and hydro power generation become more cost effective.

like they were going to fall after privatisation eh, so we'll increase the price by 500% but then take off 3% and call it a win for consumers

That’s $30 a year over 3 years if you use exactly the same kw’s

Wow

Excellent - that’s another cup of coffee a month I can afford

great news but unfortunately the next mass extinction is rapidly approaching and you don't miss that bus just because you saved a few bucks

Electricity prices forecast to fall across Australia over next three yearsPower prices are forecast to fall in most Australian states and territories over the next three years, with energy users in Queensland set to see the biggest benefit. Forcast by whom? I guess Victorians will have lower power bills when the blackouts kick in this summer. They will just have to spend that saved money on replacing all their food. This will not age well. I will believe it when it appears on my bill, until then it's just lovely fairytales.

There's a way to stop solar power overwhelming the grid — but it comes at a costThe body that runs WA's main electricity market wants the ability to remotely dump excess solar power from households to help avoid rolling power cuts. Headline should read something like “Government slow to encourage adoption of batteries to deal with solar excess” Electricity generation systems are always about $billions. The public are buying electric cars, now they are available. This will make a lot of battery available for grid balancing at minimal cost to the utilities. They just have to organise for it. No mention of 'batteries'!

Sorry, Scott, the economy can't grow much without higher wagesI usually pooh-pooh all alleged recessions that have to be qualified with an adjective. But I’ll make an exception for the 'household recession'. 1RossGittins Scott knows, but short term profit is more important 1RossGittins I want to know where tax money goes to. Our education system is failing, fire fighters aren’t getting the help they need. It doesn’t even feel like Australia anymore. What has this government done? 1RossGittins We can't have higher wages without closed borders and repatriation, given the economy is now an immigration finance ponzi scheme it is unlikely any major party will ever fix the problem. Major civil conflict and systematic collapse are essentially a guarantee at this point.

Bill Shorten least popular leader since 1990: election studyVoters swung to the Coalition on the economy, tax and leadership, while they swung to Labor on the environment. This makes me soooooooo happy! 😂🤣 Shorten certainly didn't do himself any favours but this was mostly a hatchet job by right wing media. The NSWTF takes $90,000 a week from casual and temporary teachers without any intention of providing support to them in opposition to their permanent colleagues. No wonder Labor tanked.
