A large portion of a hotel being built in New Orleans has collapsed, killing at least one person.

Construction workers had to run to safety after the Hard Rock Hotel came crashing down.

Three people are missing - and 18 others have been taken to hospital in stable conditions. Rescue crews are clearing people from the area and are concerned further collapse is possible. Image: AP
