A new dam will be built in New South Wales as part of a new drought assistance package.

The federal government and the New South Wales government will split the cost of the new dam, to be built in Dungowan, near Tamworth in the state's north-east.

The initiative is part of a $1 billion water infrastructure package from the two governments. The funding will also go towards the expansion of other dams and pipelines across the state to stop regional towns running dry. Image: Getty

WOW unbelievable did i read that right 🤔

Same there is no long range for case for rain. Best be placing funds into sustainable cropping and plant some native trees and go back to less reliance on GMO crops

That's a relief! I wonder which multinational farming conglomerate will get preferential access to the water? Can't wait to find out which LNP member is affiliated to them! It's like the Masked Singer of graft and corruption! So exciting! auspol

ANOTHER LNP LIE...I’ll believe it when it’s started...these maggots are full of crap...lied about building dams for decades and built NOT EVEN ONE

How will they fill it?

What only one?

FFS. One Dam? Yep, that will do it.

It’s the right time to build it why in drought. Where are all the RWNJ that said the desalinated plants were a waste of money

More for the LNP to rort I guess...

It's easy to say it, but harder to actually fo it

rationaliza Of course it will and by the time we do a feasibility study, spend another 30 million it might be started in the year 2060...!

We need a big dam to be built in Central Queensland and North Queensland too! Hey! Where's our dam(s)? The wet season will be here soon. We want to catch all of that water that will be going to waste. PS. Are you going to help Queensland too? I hope so!

Come on Dan – let Victoria have a dam. Why are you holding out?

Of course it will be and in southern Queensland. Should have been done 20 years ago at half the cost.

Liberal voters are suckers for a slogan.

Hahahaha the liberals have promised damns and power price reductions now for 3 elections in a row and delivered 0 damns and power has gone up every time but by all means sky peddle those lies, brain dead liberal voters fall for it every time 😂 😂 😂

Is that in a Coalition seat?

Whoever builds the dams ....gets the votes.

About damn time :)

But how long will it take to build?

Don’t tell ExtinctionRebellion - they’ll be glueing themselves to the earth-movers and instagramming their interpretive dance and blaming it on you.

watch Bob Brown and other nutters come out in mass, when the Chinese take over we will have more Dam's, fast train's, Bridge to Tasmania and more organ transplants

Won’t happen in Vic or QLD. Labor in both states are beholden to the greens.

And pigs will sprout wings before that will happen

Build more dams, well done.

Common sense prevails, now do Victoria.

More work done in China on new trains for Melbourne as delays mountMore work on Melbourne's 65 new high-capacity trains is being outsourced to China than originally planned and their rollout is running at least a year late. You can order them on Ebay and they'll say they are from Australia but they really get them in from China. There's a perfectly good train factory in Ballarat. When we build things locally, the wages get paid locally, and then they get spent locally. I do think when any government project is put out to tender, the portion of the bill that is spent in Australia should be discounted. Well, whatever it takes. Chinese move quicker. That's why they build in African countries because they are nimble.nothing to do with politics, its physical,& a bloody fact. The Age is only trying to stir up shit.

Groundwater the new frontier as corporations look to cash in on precious resourceFormed millions of years ago and hidden from sight, Australia's precious underground water reserves are becoming a new battleground in the fight for water. Isotopes produced during above ground nuclear testing, which now cover the Earth's surface & oceans in tiny quantities, can be used to track the age of water & if you have even traces of them in your bore water it cannot be older than WWII, but if it is pristine you never know... ...and Adani is given unlimited access to our underground water, yes? No corporate groups should be allowed to buy into Australian waters only farmers that have a legitimate use for it and town councils
