Sydney's iconic GPO clock tower is getting its first clean since 1963 in a once-in-a-generation operation that will take four months to complete.

Cobwebs and grime have covered the four faces of Sydney's historic GPO clock tower for over 50 years.Fourth-generation stonemason Rick Timperi has been tasked with restoring the heritage-listed building "from top to bottom".The four-month project is set to be completed in October, but Mr Timperi said he won't rush the process."We're trying to get it back to its former glory, we're trying to stop the level of deterioration and maintain it for future generations.

The clock itself is undergoing a major refurbishment, from an automated system to its original mechanism. "My brother and myself are here doing it today. It's an honour to be working on such a significant project," he said.Heritage guide Margaret Monger said the GPO was the centrepiece of Sydney when it was built in the late 1800s.

LyndaFrench19 If the GPO is closed can it still be the 'GPO clock'?

Bugger did it get the virus too from Victoria?

Slow news day obvs

I'm surprised it hasn't been defaced or ripped down by far left BLM protesters.

I'm surprised it's not getting knocked down for some apartments.

That's a shorter time than most Sydneysiders

Finally. Some GOOD news.

'Like wildfire': How virus is racing across Sydney and stateNSW health experts are working frantically to contain a small, but spreading cluster of coronavirus cases in Sydney that threatens to plunge the state into a second-wave of infections. pallavisinghal_ The stupid decision by the Gladys govt to allow almost 200k Victorian tourists to enter the state is going to come at a great cost and lockdowns will re-emerge. These politicians seem to learn nothing from their previous mistakes. pallavisinghal_ At the current rate of infection, it will take Australia 988 years to get to 100% infection & complete herd immunity. Are we expected to perpetually live with this hysterical insanity. Do our lunatic health 'experts' have an plan B. Something that is not 100% dumb? pallavisinghal_ You can’t stop the virus. No one can stop the virus. You’re all delusional. Back to work.
