The brother of one of the volcano victims has made a heartbreaking request to New Zealand's Prime Minister by email, which has been flatly denied.

Mark Inman's brother Hayden Marshall-Inman was the first victim named from the horrific eruption at White Island that has also killedMr Marshall-Inman worked as a tour guide on the island and was described by locals as an "energetic young man" and valued member of the community who would regularly leave $5 at the local shop for those who needed it to afford groceries.

An email Mark Inman, the brother of Hayden Marshall-Inman wrote to NZ PM Ardern requesting a pardon if he staged his own recovery operation.

"The last thing we want to do is to have further casualties in what is already a significant tragedy," Nash said without mentioning Mr Inman by name.

Typic self obsession- putting a team in danger to retrieve remains. Selfish.

There’s no way you would have been able to have an open casket with the type of injuries the poor deceased people would have. It will be lucky if all the bodies can be recovered with the way the volcano is atm. It’s a very sad situation for everyone

Its such a tragic and emotional time right now and they can’t risk the rescuers, everyone is doing everything they can but It’s too dangerous to go in there at this time

Seriously, she is denying you from making a dangerous move, it’s unpredictable, it’s why this situation is happening because something unpredictable occurred, I don’t think your brother would want you to take such a foolish risk

The New Zealand police minister did the right thing, denying his request. If he was allowed to go get his brother's body and needed to be rescued, emergency services people would have to risk their lives to rescue him. He should wait till it is safe to do that

While we understand his frustration, retrieving his body will not bring him back. Going there may well put others at risk who have to go to his aid if he gets into difficulties. This news item is slanted nz doing the wrong thing. Poor journalism

I feel for this man but he can’t go traipsing around there. It’s too dangerous. Such an awful situation 😢

she's the female John Howard

What a biased headline! It's too bloody dangerous!!!!!

really .lift your game

Well at least that horrible PM got her photo op....

If it was not too dangerous for innocent unsuspecting tourists, then why is it now too dangerous for experienced professionals ?

I have nothing but sympathy for the guy, but does he not realise that sending people to recover the bodies could easily result in more deaths?

Ardern praises 'courageous' pilots for White Island rescuesNew Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern acknowledged the first responders of the White Island eruption for their 'incredibly brave decision, under extraordinarily dangerous circumstances'. I wonder what she'll ask New Zealanders to wear this time. I heard she'll be doing all interviews in a full flight suit. Or, in a ship's captain's uniform!
