More evidence is emerging that coronavirus infections are being spread by people who have no clear symptoms, complicating efforts to gain control of the pandemic

Researchers found that so-called pre-symptomatic people triggered infections in seven different clusters of disease, accounting for about 6 per cent of the locally-acquired cases. An earlier study in Hubei province, China, where the virus was first identified, suggested that more than 10 per cent of transmissions could have occurred before patients spreading the virus ever exhibited symptoms.

Researchers are also looking into the possibility that additional cases are triggered by "asymptomatic" people who are infected but never develop clear-cut symptoms, and "post-symptomatic" people who got sick, appear to be recovered, but may still be contagious. It remains unclear how many new infections are caused by each type of these potential spreaders, said Meyers, who was not involved in the Singapore study but was part of an earlier one focused on China.

CDC officials say they've been researching asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic infections, but the studies are not complete. In the initial months of the pandemic, health officials based their response on the belief that most of the spread came from people who were sneezing or coughing droplets that contained the virus.

Try our best to protect ourselves. The message of not wearing mask is not scientifically proved under the context of a deadly virus. U don’t even want to catch a flu under the current status quo.

'But let's not wear masks, ' says the government, 'even if you are in a crowded area like a supermarket. The virus won't infect you bc you are out for essential business.'

We have been advised by many sources of this fact long long time ago.

This has been clear for over a month. Whadya waiting for!

What a nonsensical thing to say, if there is no evidence of symptoms there cannot be evidence of spread. FFS the bullshit our media pass off as fact is mind numbing

Um...like in schools perhaps? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Then you should realise that wearing a mask is not a bad idea as yourself or ppl around you can’t be told if infected.

Haven't the infection rates in NSW gone down over the past week.

Starting to get the idea that health authorities are going to see why letting people visit in homes is not a great idea. Same as boyfriend or girlfriend visiting each others homes. If people are showing no clear symptoms, and grandmothers are visiting grandchildren.. Boom!

So how many cases have there actually been?

No shit, it's been going around since December.

That evidence was available months ago - just ignored!

Data offers a stark coronavirus warning for regional AustraliaA study that highlights where health services are most in need also shows where coronavirus could cause the most harm if it spreads. Can you explain why NSW Health did not update its information about the numbers yesterday (31 March)? andrewprobyn A screenshot of the NSW Health website which I took this morning (there is a WHOLE DAY missing): Index colours missing here? Are there any reporting protocols across Australia, or are they all doing there own thing? Would be good to get some consistency. For instance NSW figures for any given day appear to be the reported cases from the DAY BEFORE. Screenshot from this morning.

Advice or enforcement? Fines or jail? How different states are implementing coronavirus restrictionsHere's what each state and territory is doing to ensure people follow measures designed to slow the spread of coronavirus. Will these new powers be relinquished when this is all over? Fines and jail. Too much tolerance for selfish stupidity. I've always said if the words 'enforce', 'fines' and 'jail' had been used from the outset instead of 'advice' & 'suggestion', there is every probability the rate of spread would be far less. Too many are *knowingly* irresponsible so no excuses should apply.

NZ's coronavirus modelling offers clues to Australia's confidential plansThe New Zealand government has publicly released its COVID-19 modelling, offering an invaluable insight into Australia’s own modelling so far kept from the public. Wouldn’t mind seeing the modelling that is the subject of the article. If Ardern squashed a cats head with her bare hands Australians would say ‘when are you going to squash a cats head with your bare hands Scott Morrison?’.
