After 17 races, it became clear this $180,000 thoroughbred wasn't going to cut it on the track — this is how Absolutely Win ended up at the abattoir.

Killing thoroughbreds, while not illegal, is at odds with Racing Queensland's Animal Welfare Strategy to"minimise the 'wastage' of racing animals".the Queensland Government ordered biosecurity officers to investigate the animal cruelty allegations at Meramist, the abattoir at which Absolutely Win was killedAbsolutely Win was slaughtered there in the past 18 months but a Killara Thoroughbreds spokesman said the gelding was sold two years ago as"a riding horse".

Connections should expect to pay at least $350 a week as a base rate when their horse is racing, but the bill for a more prominent trainer is often upwards of $500."It's not hard to find them homes when they're finished racing," the Killara Thoroughbreds spokesperson said. "They go to equestrian, polo or polocrosse, and a big percentage of mares end up as surrogate mothers, things like that."I have no doubt that we might rehome some and then they end up at the meatworks.

Wait till they find out what happens to little lamby wambies.

What do you call a slow Zebra? Lion Food. If it wasn't for horse racing horses would be a rarity in Australia at least where they have been replaced for all previous uses. If there is a market for horse meat in Europe its seems a good use for surplus livestock.

Could you please tweet out that brilliant interview you guys did with Chris Waller?

The industry breeds too many horses. There aren’t that many people to take those who don’t win on the track. This industry needs to take greater responsibility for its breeding practices. It is irresponsible and unacceptable to keep going as they have been. Racing sux.
