Author timbobutcher noted that while South Africa is the richest country on the continent, it is also the most unequal, with the “vast cohort” of the population left behind which resulted in the recent events in South Africa. TheBoltReport

Author Tim Butcher says a “grotesque, colossal, continent-wide” failure of leadership across Africa has led to civil unrest and violence. Last week riots in Pretoria and Johannesburg in South Africa killed at least 12 people, with 1,000 foreign-owned businesses targeted, including people from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Congo and Zimbabwe.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Butcher said money enters African countries but does not trickle down to the masses, meaning people feel frustrated without jobs, education and adequate schooling. He noted that while South Africa is the richest country on the continent, it is also the most unequal, with the “vast cohort” of the population left behind which resulted in the recent events in South Africa.
