The federal government has pledged $1 billion over nine years to help the Great Barrier Reef.

The move comes ahead of the next federal election and targets the crucial Queensland swing seats of Leichhardt, Herbert, Capricornia, and

Flynn.The money will go to improving water quality, targeting the crown of thorns starfish, coral bleaching, and problems with sediment runoff.
