In the lead-up to grand final day, Geelong fan Richard Armstrong bought a pizza oven, hopeful that restriction rules would allow at least another family to visit for a barbecue.

Premier Daniel Andrews has stood firm against the traditional grand final barbecues, despite days of low COVID-19 case numbers, but has flagged further easing of restrictions.“What starts off as perhaps an outside gathering doesn’t stay outside for long," Mr Andrews said on Tuesday.Mr Armstrong agreed there were different risks at home.

“Whereas I think if it’s in a public place, people can be observed, so they perhaps manage their behaviour a little bit more.” “If we can go outside to a public park, why can’t we go outside in our backyard? It’s open air outside,” she said.

One of the saddest stories I've seen all year.

Boo hoo. Who cares, it’s a pandemic and many people are actually suffering real problems.

Lifestyle pizza oven right there.

I read this and legit thought it was the BetootaAdvocate

The deprivation, scarred for life I’m sure ThisIsNotJournalism

You fool! No-one defies the Great Leader!

So Dan is saying no families over until after the GF. Not sure how an extra week is going to make a difference. This is purely Dan being an arsehole to all Victorian’s. Well done Dan.

Cry us a river. What a tragedy.

What a joke of a story. Like the loss of your stupid BBQ is in any way newsworthy in comparison to the fact that Victoria is being used as a model for CV-19 responses in Europe. Total dross.

Oh well I’m sure he’ll get plenty of use out of it when the restrictions finally ease. I’d rather be safe and healthy and so should be

So he bought a pizza oven for 1 day? Your reporting is in the Gutter! CovidVictoria ABCmediawatch

First World Problems. FFS.

Cats supporter here... does it really matter as long as we are playing? Pizza by yourself is better, less to share it with.

I am devastated for him. Just devastated. I hope he recovers

Seriously? Seriously?

If only he'd bought a pie maker, far greater tragedy, front page headlines.

So hard to fathom that this warrants a news story . . Could it be any more inane?

Maybe one of vicpol's drones can pick up the pizza at Richard's house and deliver it to the other family?

Wtf is the point of this article 😴

And THIS... Is what once respected Age journalists have been reduced to now that Peter Costello looms above them.

Oh, for goodness’ sake

Wow how disappointing. Such a heartbreaking story. So glad we have The Age journalism revealing these social injustices.

Oh the tragedy 🎭

An insulting report to people making legitimate sacrifices.

What a stupid article, same like the mother’s day whine. Bad journalism loubw25599 . Another reason to cancel my subscription.

One of the key sources of COVID spreading family gatherings. It has been proven here in Melb. For supporters I’m sure it is frustrating. But it is a smart call Andrews. We will all benefit from this call in the next few weeks.

This is news?

Oh, how terribly sad! But don't worry about those who won't ever see their loved ones again due to covid deaths.

Richard can just have a barbecue later on in the year, for Christmas, for NY, or Australia day. It's still a good investment don't worry gocats

I have barracked for Cats all my life, I used to work at Kardinia Park. And now I can’t even go to Geelong because I live 300 metres on the “wrong” side of LittleRiver. Can’t experience any grand final build up in my home town b/c of DA and his empty promise of a fix for LittleR

Well boo fucking hoo! .... gotiges 🐯🏆🏆🏆

Luckily he still has the Melbourne Cup to look forward to. Or if the Cats win, when the lockdown is lifted he can invite another family to come over and re-live it on a big screen

So sad for this bloke. I'm very sorry for your loss. Hope your friends and family put a loving Covid safe arm around you and get you through this tough time.

Wot? Who gives a flying fuck whether this guy can use his pizza oven? What utter pap.

Lets all meet up anyway. Flu season is over.

What a tragic circumstance that he can’t use his new oven. What about the families who can’t see or talk to their family members because they’re dead? auspol

ThisIsNotJournalism , did ACurrentAffair9 Tracy Grimshaw share this with The Age? Pathetic.

Hold the front page! Man can't use pizza oven during pandemic.

Aww didums...

Cry me a fucking river.

I would comment but most people have already said what I was thinking 🤣. ThisIsNotJournalism

Oh nooooooooo!!!

The domino effect🤦🏻

This is a story? Aim is to make us all sad that case numbers have come down, light at end of tunnel? Why not celebrate the excellent health outcomes, unmatched worldwide? Be happy that Brisbane are not playing in the grand final.

First world problems and that’s not a pizza oven this is

BetootaAdvocate is that you

Thoughts and prayers to all people who bought pizza ovens for this weekend.

With everything going on in our country right now, Channel 9 is out here reporting about Local Man who can't use his swanky new pizza oven. Sorry chaser, BetootaAdvocate, they got your scoop.

JBurgmannMilner

The real tragedy of the pandemic right here. So he took a risk and spent big before the rules were confirmed. At least he'll still have the pizza oven for BBQs in the coming weeks and for next year's GF. And the GF after that. And...

Sucker...

Has he considered buying a pony and running it around his backyard? Could the. Possibly get 1000 people over. Seems like a better investment than a pizza oven.

It's so sad that pizza ovens can only be used once, on one day of the year. Hopefully he can get a refund

Risk a third wave because someone bought a pizza oven? Really? Oh you are scraping away at the bottom of the barrel. Have you run out of wealthy LNP donors to write about their hardship during lockdown?

This is not news

GF public holiday is a complete waste of time. We’re not hosting it this so why in the hell are we having the public holiday. We’re still under restrictions we can’t do anything.A complete waste of time.

This sort of reporting makes us all dumber
