Residents of the Gold Coast’s fire ravaged community of Beechmont have sung the praises of firefighters, calling them “angels” for saving so many homes from destruction.

One resident explained how the flames reached all the way to her property boundary, praising the volunteers who worked tirelessly to save so many homes in the hinterland community. “I don't think any houses would have been left standing if it hadn’t been for them,” she said.

There are still 50 fires burning across the state, with 100 firefighters arriving from interstate to give those in the Gold Coast hinterland a much needed break. High fire danger conditions will are set to continue with above average temperatures and strong winds are expected early this week, raising the fire threat from high to very high.
