With the world's number one tennis player unable to defend his Australian Open crown after losing a legal challenge, social media is split over the federal government's treatment of the unvaccinated Serbian.

With Novak Djokovic unable to defend his Australian Open crown after losing a legal challenge, social media is divided over the treatment of the world's number one tennis player.after the full bench of the Federal Court decided in favour of Immigration Minister, Alex Hawke.

The setback for the unvaccinated 20-time Grand Slam champion was applauded by British talk show host, Piers Morgan, who called him a "Covid rule cheat [and] immigration form liar".Actress Mia Farrow, commenting before the second court hearing, agreed that Djokovic had been less than truthful, and had "knowingly exposed people" to coronavirus by attending events while infected.

There was no shortage of criticism on social media of the federal government's handling of the Djokovic case from Labor politicians, past and present. "He knew there might be the possibility that with the rules you have to be vaccinated," Wilander told Eurosport.Former world number one doubles player Rennae Stubbs described the ruling as "a sad, sad day for tennis", while Australia's most successful active men's player Nick Kyrgios simply tweeted a facepalm emoji on hearing the news.

I genuinely think that because this privileged white male was deported that many lives have been potentially saved. He was a beacon of hope for the great unwashed anti-vaxxers. Hopefully they rethink their position after his removal. NoVaxDjoCovid GetVaccinated

Who cares, except rusted on ABC journalist's

Divided.. 90-10.. in favour that he goes away... Somewhere... Else

More important things happening Australia has moved on. Helping Tonga Tongaeruption is vital

Unvaccinated is the point 👉, I hope that other countries will apply the same rules to Djokavic as they do with the rest of the World Population 🌎

They can sook all they want. No vaccine, no play!

Another ScottMorrisonMP LNP screw up. He should not have been given a visa in the first instance. An overall embarrassing event for Australia

Global opinion isn't divided, other countries are simply laughing at Australia and disgusted at how they treat tourists.

So long as there is more opinion (awareness) of the other detainees, and condemnation of the government

Move on! The rich entitled guy doesn’t deserve to keep sucking all the attention out of Australia. There are so many other more important news items. Refugees still detained after 9 years, Tonga volcano, food shortages and RAT shortages are all more important than tennis players

He wanker for not getting vax?, or, he tosser for not getting vax? divided

Jilly Been Why was it OK for Serbia to refuse entry to the Kosovo boxers who wanted to compete at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championship? Did Novak (or his family) defend their right to participate ? What makes Novak's right to play in Australia any different to theirs?

Time to wheel this one out again....

Does the world know that - at the same time - we forgot to order RAT’s, won’t make them free for all, have major supply chain issues but still build quarantine camps?! But … we kicked out a tennis player. Woohoo!!

There shouldn’t be any exemptions for unvaccinated

Divided opinion? A few ignorant, self-obsessed tennis players vs the rest of the world? What a beat up story ABC ! Do better ! notjournalism

Get over it... this is not front pages news.. its a distraction that the ABC will happily run for the LNP ... its a protection racquet

Do not turn up at school and wave a letter from mum attempting to avoid school rules because mum says so. Pathetic for an adult to do so.

“Global opinion” is irrelevant to the legality of an invalid visa. No one else’s opinion matters. It’s a simple case of law observance. Solved, deported, flown away.

Seriously, enough of the Djokovic story..it is fluff.

The question is, who approved Djokovic's visa in the first place?

Well I hope the media can now focus on more important issues, instead of having to sit through the first 10 minutes of the news hearing about Djokovic or how much Serbia hates Australia.

ABC trying desperately to nullify the political clout behind Djokovic deportation - “” claiming Australia looks foolish “” In reality the ABC looks foolish - The judges were correct to not let an anti vaxxer play

Only the media divides views !! It's a universal truth that Australia did the right thing, I'd like to see what U.S, England & France does !

News Organisations & Journalists need to report facts. This story is notjournalism. It is an attempt to influence public perception. Dig a little, be a Journalist Jason Dasey & you would find that most Australians and the world blame this debacle on CraigTiley

🙋🏻‍♀️

The ABC waffled for the first 9 minutes of their news last night on Novak rather than WHY was he given a visa and the GOD-LIKE powers of the minister! ThisIsNotJournalism ScottyTheGaslighter

See ya Felicia

Just a heads-up to the world. Australia basically digs big holes which we use to fund an even bigger land and development ponzi. We have no skills in any other areas. Please don’t take our incompetence personally.

The government has let in so many people with COVID that has spread amongst the country with their lame quarantine and now act tough over a tennis players who would of stayed for a month & not even mix with the public. His exemption should of been enough to stay for a short time

Funnily, the vast majority not the Tweets on the CNN piece are supportive of the decision.

Djokovic's legal team wanted 3 judges. Minister Hawke wanted only one judge. 3 judges = no appeal allowed. Tuff bikkies for poor advice.

Support DjokerNole. Shame on ScottMorrisonMP. Resist

so what...stop this nuisance...the drama is over..

About bloody time. While your add it send those Serb protesters with him- good luck & good riddens- love from Australia. Hahahaa

That must have been a fucking huge poll...

Novax Depjortovic. Dubai and Vax off.

Global opinion on what? The Australian current government is a joke.

Dickovic

Australia has gone full circle. Started and ended as a prison island.

Shame on AO that tried to bring this hypocrite in, despite rule and fairness.

Australia’s government had an opportunity to show that freedom of movement has been re-established and that the country is opening to the world again. But they blew it. Who would take a chance on Australia’s capricious visa system and open and shut borders ? AustraliaHasFallen

Excuse me

I don’t think you’re reading the room very well. Other than Serbia and some anti-vaxxers and Novax tragics opinion across Europe and most other countries is that Australia did the right thing. If anything, they’re perplexed that he was allowed in at all.

Global opinion isn’t important, respect the law of the land , and Australian people

Should not have been allowed on a plane to travel to Australia.

We don't CARE about 'Global Opinion'. This is OUR country, Australia. He tried to cheat OUR system, and suffered consequences of doing so, under OUR laws. Enough. It's OVER.

How many politicians have entered the country under 'special' exemptions?

Not divided 50/50 though. Frankly opinion on literally everything in the world is divided.

Suffer in ya Djoks! Bye, Felicia!

It really doesn’t matter what global opinion is. He should never have had a visa in the first place.

Move on. He’s gone.

There are consequences when you decide to not get vaccinated. Getting tossed from Australia is one of the least serious ones.

Not too divided. For the most part ppl felt Novax deserved to be sent home.

AustraliaHasFallen

I am not clear as to how the reputation of the Australian government gets tarnished for upholding the rule of law and applying the rules uniformly across the board. They have done a great job on this!

Half of the world is selfish

Disgusting

Did he get his disappearance money
