Get ready for low rates for long time, says world's central bankers | swrighteconomy

The RBA last week took the official cash rate to a fresh all-time low of 0.75 per cent and has started looking at the type of unconventional policies it may have to implement if rates fall further. The BIS research found unconventional policies may have a role before a central bank finds itself with ultra-low interest rates but still wants to get an economy growing faster.

"One key lesson is that the tools are most effective when used together with a broader set of policies like fiscal and prudential measures," he said. The BIS research warned that if central banks use unconventional policies then governments may avoid their own responsibilities to helping the economy.
