Cardinal George Pell's lawyers have taken his fight to overturn his child sex abuse convictions to the High Court.
Pell's legal team had 28 days to go to the High Court after the cardinal's first appeal against his convictions for the oral rape of a choirboy and the sexual assault of another was dismissed. George Pell leaves the Melbourne Supreme Court after Victoria's highest court rejected his appeal in August.The High Court application will be considered by a panel and either dismissed, or Pell's lawyers will be called to a brief hearing.If Pell is granted leave to appeal, it is likely to be a further four to six months before his case is heard.

Can someone elaborate on who decides whether or not he has a case or whether it is dismissed? Surely the high court will back the two judges from the court of appeal! Hope it gets thrown out and he stays put!
His case raised some important legal points so I hope that this is something the High Court goes through thoroughly, if they choose to take the case.
So he’s still a Cardinal in the church even after being convicted? What message does that send to the current batch of choirboys?
