The application was filed at the Melbourne registry of the High Court on Tuesday – a day before the deadline for lodgement.
The cardinal is currently behind bars, serving a minimum prison sentence of three years and eight months for his crimes against the two choirboys. Pell was found guilty by a County Court jury in December last year of sexually assaulting two choirboys at St Patrick's Cathedral in East Melbourne in the 1990s, when he was the newly installed Archbishop of Melbourne.

There is no automatic right to have an appeal 👂by the High Court & parties who wish to appeal must persuade the Court in a prelim hearing that there are special reasons to cause the appeal to be 👂 If he gets off on a legal technicality it doesn’t def make him innocent.
