The French Government sends a delegation of more than 50 officials, scientists and business executives to Australia.

France is hoping to capitalise on the $50 billion future submarine contract with Australia by sending a delegation of more than 50 officials, scientists and business leaders to Australia to spruik research deals with local institutions.The delegation will sign more than 17 deals with Australian universities and institutions

Those three South Australian organisations have teamed up to establish a joint defence research laboratory in the wake of the submarines contract being handed to Adelaide's Osborne shipyards. A former biochemist and academic, the minister argued the desire by France to forge new partnerships was not spurred on by Brexit.

"For example we share with Australia the Coral Sea, and it is of course very important to preserve and restore the coral reefs," she said.Scientific research needs money in both Australia and France
