Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has been named captain of the Australian side for the upcoming Cup of Nations on home soil and the looming World Cup campaign in France.

Steph Catley will be the vice-captain to the goalscoring Kerr, who told a news conference in Sydney she won't be changing her style with the added responsibility of donning the captain's armband.

"I'm just going to lead by my actions," a clearly delighted Kerr said."Everyone has been really supportive, it's an honour and I'm not going to give it up for anything. I'm really excited about it."
