One of Australia's most eminent lawyers is speaking out about a lack of accountability and transparency in the commission charged by the Morrison Government with planning Australia's COVID-19 recovery.

Justice White acknowledged that the commission was made up of "distinguished people with enormous expertise" and said of its members, "each in their own way will bring an enormous amount to that committee"."The core business of many of them is on the energy and manufacturing side. I see no overt representation of [other] big industries in Australia — tourism, hospitality and the arts.

"It suggests that the focus of recovery will be in the sectors that they represent because that's what they know best."In a statement to the ABC on behalf of the NCCC, the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet said it was wrong to suggest the NCCC has "narrow representation or focus". As to the lack of a formal work plan or reporting schedule, the statement said the NCCC's had a "flexible work plan to ensure it can move quickly to address issues as they arise".

Justice White was also dissatisfied with the explanation the NCCC's CEO, Peter Harris, gave about how conflicts of interests would be handled.
