The former managing director will receive the payment in return for ending legal action against the public broadcaster for wrongful dismissal, after being sack by the board last year.

The ABC's former managing director Michelle Guthrie will receive an out-of-court settlement worth $730,000 in return for ending her legal action. The ABC board sacked Michelle Guthrie half-way through a five-year managing director termMs Guthrie was also paid more than one year's salary, separate to the settlement

Ms Guthrie was sacked half-way through her term in September last year and pursued the public broadcaster for wrongful dismissal in the Federal Court. The matter was resolved on Friday and acting ABC managing director David Anderson revealed the $730,000 settlement at a Senate estimates hearing on Wednesday."As you know, the adverse action claim was against reinstatement or, I believe, payment of the remaining term of Ms Guthrie, with two and a half years left to run on her contract."The gross amount of that settlement claim is $730,000.

Ms Guthrie was also paid more than one year's salary when her contract was terminated, separate to the out-of-court settlementAt the time of Ms Guthrie's departure, then ABC chairman Justin Milne said the board had decided it was not in the best interests of the organisation for her to continue to lead it.

Just days later, Mr Milne resigned after allegations he bowed to political interference in relation to the performance and employment of ABC journalists.Media veteran Ita Buttrose was announced as Mr Milne's replacement as ABC chair on Thursday.

what a waste of our money

She's over the moon, next please.

Sacked for being completely incompetent and still gets a payout for unfair dismissal, when she was employed on a contract basis. And the ABC wonder why they have lost all credibility? Fucking ridiculous.

We should reduce funding of programs and use the money to increase renumeration of executives. These folk are having a problem performing probably due to appalling lack of renumeration.

That's an awful lot of 'go-away' money. Given Guthrie accepted employment knowing she could be terminated without cause at the whim of the Board, this is a disgraceful waste of taxpayers' dollars. The ABC is too generous with other people's funds.AusPol

Maybe the ABC should be defunded if they waste taxpayers money like this.

Shame on you ABC for wasting taxpayers money. You’re no better than our Federal Government.

That was all very quick.

the ...bottomless pit. factcheck...was this a stupid waste of taxpayer's money or not?

TheirABC YourTaxes

Who paid her legal fees?

So much for the termination without reason clause

Is that the right amount ?

Because she is worth 10 times more than the average worker? Oh ABC where is your left wing credibility now?

An Ita premium. 😁😆

Tax payers money.

Good luck to her.

Why did the ABC not fight this, instead of paying out thousands, scared of the truth i say, you really do suck ABC, please little children never be like our ABC ,,,, EVER. auspol.
