Foreign Minister MarisePayne has accused Beijing of spreading disinformation and called for the reform of global bodies including the World Health Organisation in her first major speech on the post-COVID climate.

17/06/2020Foreign Minister Marise Payne has accused Beijing of spreading disinformation and called for the reform of global bodies including the World Health Organisation in her first major speech on the post-COVID climate. "At the heart of successful international cooperation is the concept each country shares rather than yields a portion of its sovereign decision making," Ms Payne said.

The Foreign Minister said governments needed to be able to rely on government bodies during a pandemic, taking a swipe at WHO over claims it was beholden to China. "Disinformation during a pandemic will cost lives," she said. Ms Payne also took the opportunity to criticise China for warning students and tourists to avoid Australia due to 'racism and coronavirus' concerns.

MarisePayne A politician talking sense? I'm going to make a note. I often wonder whether politicians actually look at Twitter, since the public always seem to be 2 steps ahead of our representatives. The fact the WHO and the UN still haven't been investigated is crazy. CCP IPAC

'Reform conversations' gain momentum from ongoing US protests | Sky News AustraliaProtests across the United States in response to the death of George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks are the culmination of years of police brutality, according to the New Republic staff writer Osita Nwanevu.\n\nProtests continue across the US after black man Rayshard Brooks was shot dead by Atlanta police at the weekend when he resisted arrested and allegedly attempted to fire at the officers with a taser stun gun. \n\nMr Nwanevu told Sky News “protests against what happened to Rayshard Brooks are going to look like a continuation of what we’ve already been seeing these past few weeks”. \n\n“The Floyd situation I think has created new energy for reform conversations that were already going on,” he said. \n\n“I think the one change now is you also have the movement that is fundamentally interested in transforming or reworking law enforcement in conception in this country.\n\n“Whether that conversation develops into something that lasts beyond the next couple of weeks and is carried into the political future I think remains to be seen.” \n\nImage: AP This is not protesting ffs it’s rioting call it what it is Tell us something we dont know! Why why the cops in US kills a civilian on minor scuffle, without death sentence by a competent court? And why cops shoot a black in chest to kill rather than in legs Or not let them run Culprits once identified in body camera can be arrested any time from their home.

Australia ‘being punished’ by China as Australian man faces execution | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says Australia “is currently being punished” by China for “daring to suggest the world needs an independent investigation into the origins of COVID-19,” after Beijing announced an Australian man will face the death penalty after being found guilty of drug importation charges.\n\nKarm Gillespie was arrested in 2013 for drug trafficking charges, and was last week convicted and will now face the death penalty.\n\n“Gillespie has been in custody in China for seven years yet only now do we get clarity on charges, conviction and sentence,” Mr Kenny said.\n\n“China routinely executes more prisoners each year than any other country.\n\n“But there is little doubt that this latest sentence fits the pattern of trying to punish Australia.\n\n “This is just another insight into the political system we are dealing with.”\n\n Which ignorant Australian thought he could get away with importing drugs to China. He totally deserves it. Don't do illegal sh*t. I think it’s a matter for them. Not us.
