With two of his main rivals absent from this year's US Open, Novak Djokovic says one of the factors drawing him to New York is the chance to close in on Roger Federer's record of 20 major titles.

Novak Djokovic has decided to travel to New York for the US Open amid the COVID-19 pandemic because the 17-times grand slam champion did not want to pass up on the opportunity to close in on Roger Federer's record tally of 20.A number of leading players are avoiding this year's US Open, but Novak Djokovic will play at Flushing Meadows

Tennis's changed schedule after the coronavirus shutdown means the US Open will be followed by the French Open in late September "I cannot say it's the main reason why I'm here, but it's one of the reasons," Djokovic told The New York Times. This will be the first grand slam Djokovic has played without both of his famous contemporaries, Federer and Nadal.
