Father in Dutch 'apocalypse' family case arrested

The 67-year-old father of six adult children found living cut off from the world at a rural property in the Netherlands has been arrested and charged on suspicion of holding his family captive.Interviews with the alleged victims are continuing as police try to understand the family's secluded lifestyle

Authorities say the father of the children conspired with another man who was arrested for deprivation of liberty and money laundering. In what they are calling an"exceptional" and"unique" case, Dutch police say the man has been charged with unlawful deprivation of liberty, abuse and money laundering.

the abuse charge relates to the allegation that the suspect endangered the health of his children, believed to now be between the ages of 18 and 25.Ms Horsman says the money laundering charge is connected to the discovery of"a substantial amount of cash" at the property in the village of Ruinerwold.Ms Horsman said interviews with the alleged victims were continuing.

"As they haven't really interacted with the outside world for a long time you can imagine that those talks are quite difficult," she said.
