First used in the British capital in 2016, the cameras will alert police when they spot anyone already on 'wanted' lists

British police are to start operational use of live facial recognition cameras in London, despite warnings over privacy from rights groups and concerns expressed by the government's own surveillance watchdog.

Police in Britain are looking beyond CCTV to real-time facial recognition surveillance in a move denounced by human rights and privacy activists."This is an important development for the Met and one which is vital in assisting us in bearing down on violence."Police said help it would be able to quickly identify and apprehend suspects and help "tackle serious crime, including serious violence, gun and knife crime, child sexual exploitation and help protect the vulnerable.

Responding to the ruling last September, the government's Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter, said that police should not see it as a "green light" for generic deployment of automated facial recognition.

Margaret Court 'recognition' to be an awkward sideshow at Australian OpenThe recognition ceremony for Margaret Court at the Australian Open could be somewhat awkward, as Tennis Australia tries to do its own version of separating art from the artist. What the Left do well, wreck anyone or anything they disagree with, sad. It wouldn’t have been awkward if the media didn’t make it awkward. Just like this headline is preempting it. Putting up rainbow flags on her court to bait her. Remember the izzy settlement? You're allowed to have your own opinion in Australia.
