'Exploitation': Shark Tank fashion start-up fined for underpaying workers | AnnaPattySMH

and its director have been fined more than $329,000 for underpaying three workers more than $40,000.

The court found three employees aged in their mid-20s were underpaid a total of $40,543 for their entitlements including minimum hourly rates, overtime, public holiday pay and annual leave between 2013 and 2015.One of the employees was a graphic designer who had completed a university degree, worked two-days per week for almost six months without pay under a purported ‘unpaid internship’ before receiving a one-off payment of just $1000. She was underpaid $6913.

“Unpaid placements are lawful where they are part of a vocational placement related to a course of study. However, the law prohibits the exploitation of workers when they are fulfilling the role of an actual employee.”

Margaret River Pro thrown lifeline after shark attacks cast shadow on surf eventThe West Australian Government and the World Surf League strike a deal to keep the Margaret River Pro on surfing's championship tour until at least 2021. It's a dull competition wave. It's either a fat, lumpy faced wave at the point. Or a quick tuck in over at the box, which is spectacular wave, just not much of a contest wave. Maybe, if the stars align we get a few classic waves in between interminably ling lulls at Northpoint
