A bipartisan group, likely dozens strong, to give voice and force to the interests of pro-democracy Hong Kongers, will fly in the face of Beijing's views. This may be uncomfortable for the Australian government. But it demonstrates the depth of authentic sympathy for the pro-liberty protesters and a growing Australian wariness of the Chinese Communist Party's repressive impulses. There are two main reasons that a new exodus from Hong Kong could be a great opportunity for Australia.
President Xi Jinping has described the United Front Work Department as one of the Chinese Communist Party's three "magic weapons". The others are the Chinese armed forces and party's organisational building ability. The United Front Work Department seeks to establish the party's influence abroad under the camouflage of business, academic or community activities.
So these are the reasons that Australia could gain from a wave of Hong Kong immigrants. But the question that the government will ask is why Australia need do anything more to attract them? It's true that Australia is the most favoured destination already. Last year 2400 Hong Kong residents moved to Australia, 1600 to the US and 1100 to Canada, according to statistics from the Hong Kong government. But while this is true, it might not be relevant.reports migration agencies saying that, among Hong Kongers seeking to leave now, the most popular destination is Singapore followed by Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysia. And the numbers are surging.

We don’t need these trouble making thugs as we already have heaps of them here! Send them to China!
Don’t need anymore extremists yet!
Resettle protestors who throw petrol bombs, trash mtr stations, commit arson, block roads, block airports, destroy private property and beat up law abiding citizens into Australia? What's the point if they don't value the rule of law? Give more work to the Australian Police?
Yes Australia should make it easier for people from Asian countries to come here. Given our proximity and the ease of integration it's a no brainer. Japanese / Chinese and Vietnamese people seem to get along well in Australian communities. Generally work hard / educated. so y not
under this LNP Govt democracy in Aust is not looking good ether
. You may not have noticed. But they are trying to democratise THEIR homeland. And I'm sure Beijing would be glad to get rid of them. So, rather than 'capitalise' on their predicament, what if instead, we used our trading relationship with China to help them achieve their goal?
Could probably say the same about a lot of Iranians, Syrians, etc As I recall the argument a few years ago against taking people from troubled countries was they should stay there and continue the fight, or something along those lines.
no HK people r extra loud When they r in d trains the loudest chats r cantonese They r shouting They bring Triad gang The well off r OK but not d masses
If the Australian government stops swinging on the Hong Kong issue...
