BREAKING: Labor is set to win government, an EXCLUSIVE Nine YouGov Galaxy Exit Poll shows. AusVotes 9News

“Of course it is a troubling exit poll, but the pre-polling then becomes exceedingly important,” Ms Bishop said. The Coalition is edging Labor on primary votes, 39 to 38 per cent. The Greens are holding steady at 10 per cent, and Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party are registering at three per cent.

Ten per cent of voters are opting for another party or an independent, down from 13 per cent in 2016, the poll shows.Deputy Labor Leader Tanya Plibersek said the exit poll showed “a good result for us”. “We have only once achieved a two- party preferred vote of 52 per cent, and that was the 2007 election with Kevin Rudd,” she said. The Nine YouGov Galaxy poll suggested former foreign minister Julie Bishop would have given the Coalition the best chance of winning the election.Deposed prime minister Malcolm Turnbull was the preferred leader for 17 per cent of respondents.

Peter Dutton, whose challenge of Mr Turnbull prompted last August’s leadership spill, proved deeply unpopular with voters.Another 24 per cent of voters were uncommitted. The poll found the most important issues for voters were health and Medicare , the cost of living and climate change .Education was the top issue for 27 per cent of voters, followed by housing affordability and negative gearing .The exit poll results are based on a survey of 3301 voters at 33 polling booths across the country.
