Former inmates describe mock executions, beatings and psychological torture in the notorious prison where three Australians are being held.

After his initial interrogation he was transferred to a prison where he was held with violent offenders who would often threatened rape, which"the prison authorities chose to ignore".

Author Marina Nemat, now living in Canada, was 16 when she was arrested and sent to Evin prison in 1982"for speaking out against the government and attending protest rallies". Ms Nemat wrote extensively of her years in prison and the aftermath in her books, Prisoner of Tehran and After Tehran: A Life Reclaimed.

When she was moved around the prison, she said she was blindfolded and dragged along by a rope tied around her wrists, as screams echoed through the halls.

‘Black hole of evil’: Iran’s prison nightmareFormer prisoners and human rights groups have warned of the squalid and terrifying conditions in Iran’s notorious Evin prison, as Australian authorities press Iranian leaders for the release of three Australian citizens. Hopefully our prison departments will send some people over there to learn how a prison should be run and implement the same thing here I wish I could generate some sympathy, but since our govt has been detaining people for years in deplorable conditions without access to medical care I think any outrage caused by this would be hypocritical - don't you? auspol Why not report on what we, Australians put people through when we lock them up indefinitely ? auspol
