France is in the sweaty grasp of a hot weather phenomenon known as la canicule - and forecasters are running out of ways to describe both its immediate danger and ominous long-term significance.

Meteorologist Rupert Hallali found a satellite pattern of temperatures across France that just so happened to create the image of a screaming skull. The map was first pulished on June 20 on Météociel, using real data created by the US predictive Global Forecast System.According to French national meteorological service Météo-France, canicules can be distinguished from ordinary heatwaves by their unrelenting intensity, with sweltering nights as well as days.

Derived from the Latin word for dog, the term can be roughly translated into English as "a dog of a day", or even "dog days of summer".Attribution:Authorities are setting up extra drinking fountains and water misting devices. Swimming pools will open late and air conditioned spaces will be opened in the afternoons for vulnerable people.

I am a teacher and this is what I know about students and mobile phonesBanning mobile phones in schools is straight from the alarmist's book of bandaid solutions. Let's find a better one, writes Dan Hogan. Lets not. People are consumed by their mobiles. case in point two parents walking two small children in a pram there was no communication between them or their children. They were texting on their mobiles as they walked. I was surprised that they did not trip over anything. Its also the use of online sites including quizzes and reviews to test knowledge/get feedback. Once another class 'hacked' into our session. Many of these 'tasks' foster competition to be recognised for anything right down to the identity handle created rather than develop skills Distraction is one of the biggest hurdles for students, particularly high school students. The less time on a phone, the better.
