New South Wales Treasurer Dom_Perrottet says it will be 'a very challenging time' for the state when federal JobKeeper funding ends in September and is working to have the state economy running as self sufficiently as possible by the deadline.

New South Wales Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says it will be "a very challenging time" for the state when federal JobKeeper funding ends in September and is working to have the state economy running as self sufficiently as possible by the deadline. "We want to make sure when we get to the end of September - when the JobKeeper program runs out - that we transition as many people from that program into paid wages," Mr Perrottet said.

The state Treasurer said the government worked around a six-month shutdown framework but noted it would likely be shorter than anticipated given the low COVID-19 infection rates. "We're more exposed than other states based on our economy, we're Australia's gateway to the world," he said. "While the restrictions have been lifting, it's been a significant focus for me to make sure by that deadline we have as much of the NSW economy operating as possible.

Australia ‘being punished’ by China as Australian man faces execution | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says Australia “is currently being punished” by China for “daring to suggest the world needs an independent investigation into the origins of COVID-19,” after Beijing announced an Australian man will face the death penalty after being found guilty of drug importation charges.\n\nKarm Gillespie was arrested in 2013 for drug trafficking charges, and was last week convicted and will now face the death penalty.\n\n“Gillespie has been in custody in China for seven years yet only now do we get clarity on charges, conviction and sentence,” Mr Kenny said.\n\n“China routinely executes more prisoners each year than any other country.\n\n“But there is little doubt that this latest sentence fits the pattern of trying to punish Australia.\n\n “This is just another insight into the political system we are dealing with.”\n\n Which ignorant Australian thought he could get away with importing drugs to China. He totally deserves it. Don't do illegal sh*t. I think it’s a matter for them. Not us.
