NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says the state's unemployment rate will rise to almost 8 per cent, or 275,000 people, in the June quarter as the coronavirus shutdown takes its toll on the economy.
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet says the state needs to return to robust economic health as soon as possible.Mr Perrottet will deliver his update on the same day he was due to hand down the state budget, which has been delayed until after the federal government budget scheduled for October. Mr Perrottet will also warn that the construction industry faces significant challenges, with new housing and projects drying up as jobs are cancelled by the private sector and immigration falls.
And with women disproportionately affected by COVID-19, the Treasurer will also reveal the Berejiklian government’s plans to keep funding community preschools until October.
