An emergency warning has been issued for a bushfire burning towards properties near Armidale in the New South Wales northern tablelands.
Residents are being advised to take shelter and emergency alert phone messages are being sent to the area.Ben Shepherd from the RFS said the fire was burning about 20 kilometres north-east of Guyra, a town between Armidale and Glen Innes. "So we have sent an emergency alert message out to homes in the area just to seek shelter as that fire front arrives."
Inspector Shepherd said weather conditions were likely to pose an increased fire risk over the weekend before conditions improved next week.
