‘One size fits all’ guidance could lead to 20m litres of drinking water being wasted each day in UK, scientists say

A recommendation to drink eight glasses of water a day is likely to be excessive for most people, according to scientists.. The latest work, however, the most rigorous study to date on water turnover, reveals that people have a wide range of water intakes. Many people only require about 1.5 to 1.8 litres a day, lower than the two litres typically recommended, the research suggests.

One issue is that previous estimates of water requirements have tended to ignore the water content of food, which can contribute a substantial proportion of our overall intake. The rate of elimination of the extra deuterium reveals how quickly water in the body is turned over, and the study found the measure varied widely depending on a person’s age, gender, activity levels and surrounding. Those living in hot and humid climates and at high altitudes as well as athletes and pregnant and breastfeeding women had higher turnover, meaning they need to drink more water.

‘We can act as one on this’: Ed Husic tackling climate change in AustraliaIndustry and Science Minister Ed Husic says Australia’s climate is warming at an increasing rate – at 1.47 degrees since records began over a century ago. “In a nutshell what that means, is there’s an increased risk of more fires, more flood, more extreme heat more often,” Mr Husic said. “We have an ability to act – all of us in being able to respond, and also to prepare in particular industry. “We can act as one on this, it just takes a government to take the science seriously.” I call it BS Hmm I live in Tasmania, we had snow 2 nights ago, a week out from December.....pretty sure reality says the opposite to what this blow hard dribbles! The only place that's truly getting hotter is Queensland, but they don't consider themselves as part of Australia sooo.... 🤷 When the BOM have been diddling temps your data is useless
