Peter Dutton says the Greens and the teal independents are pushing for “show trials” for the proposed corruption watchdog in an attempt to usher in an “era of instability”.

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus introduced legislation for a national anti-corruption commission on Wednesday with the government hopeful the bill will pass by the end of the year.

The Attorney-General said the new body would have broad investigative powers but most of its hearings would be held in private.

The government has not yet explicitly detailed what the exceptional circumstances would be other than to suggest it could involve avoiding prejudicing future court cases. “And on behalf of the greens, in the senate in the inquiry we will be working together with this extraordinary bunch of MPs and Senators to put as much sunlight as possible into this anti-corruption commission.”

AxelMartin Says one of the people that are running scared. If they’ve done nothing wrong, they have nothing to fear

Hopefully the corruption watch dog takes a look at dodgy Dan Andrews - if it eventuates

AxelMartin No corruption no problem Comrades! 😂 😳

What he is worried is happening in South Korea. When the President finished the term, it it the time they were going to face a lot of lawsuits. Political people use it to harm someone they don’t like. It is dangerous.

He is panicking about the corruption commission

This is their ploy to maintain political power and screw everyday Aussies, pity they couldn’t put the same effort into the current problems facing Aussies, appears they really don’t care , they probably really dislike most Aussies another Far Left ploy !

'show' trials? you mean, Taxpayers seeing value for money when it comes to the politicians that represent them?

If Spud is against it, them I'm all for it.

Now who have we heard recently talking about the Greens and Teals causing 'instability'? Oh yes, it was Gerry Harvey. Dutton doesn't have an original thought in his head.

Bcz embezzling murderers deserve a break. auspol

The fact he protests too much is clear indication of the necessity for an inquiry onto corruption.

More like an era that shows everyone that makes a corrupt decision is held accountable to the laws of the land. I know Dutton is worried that he and the remainder of his rabble will get caught up in it but that is the consequence of corruption.

If he’s done nothing wrong why wouldn’t he want public hearings

He’s shitting BRICKS 🧱

Why would the Liberal party be concerned i wonder🤔

It’s an era of accountability he’s terrified about.

PeterDutton LNP

I think they are looking for transparency

The Greens and Teals like a bit of innuendo

Against show trials = keep everything secret because it might embarrass the corrupt former government. Let the sunshine in and fumigate the rodents who rorted taxpayer money. EnoughlsEnough NACC

gee! and the liberals loved the TURC!!!! PeterDutton_MP you hypocrite

this guy has less gumption than Pontius Pilate he stands for nothing

Why would they want “an era of instability”? Sounds like paranoia PeterDutton_MP

I can hear the squeaks of PeterDutton_MP and the LNPCorruptionParty sphincters collectively puckering from here auspol

Does he know about Bridget Archer?

Mr 17%? 🥴

Doesn't want to be on show!

Show trials, public hearings, LNP corruption exposure hour, Liars R Us, whatever you want to call them, they need to be exposed, not hidden away. Enough secrecy!

bloody good idea!

Looks like PDuddy isn't a fan of transparency, a cop never changes its colours.

All for the federal icac. But innuendo, questions and allegations have to be managed carefully. A show trial, devoid of any evidence, that ultimately only slanders someone without sue process, is a very disturbing development.

Having served as QLD cop Dutton is well versed in corrupt proceedings

Peter Dutton says he didn’t mean to walk out on the apology even though he did.

Except the body does not hold trials. Why does he lie to try and make his point? The DPP decides if there is a case to be prosecuted. The trial occurs in an actual court. Words matter boofhead, get your shot together and stop looking for an excuse to squib this. auspol

He really doesn’t support “Open and Transparent”Government does he?

Show some spine Dutton

'Sit down boofhead'

Era of'instability'? He meant to say era of 'credibility' didn't he?

Squeaky bum time Petey, someone sounds guilty

A 'Clayton's' Legislation. An empty promise. PR. No substance. The irreducible minimum to keep an election promise. No substance, rather like the government itself. No one is going to introduce a law that exposes their own corruption.

Coalition aiming to ‘get the balance right’ with anti-corruption bill: DuttonOpposition leader Peter Dutton has indicated the Coalition is yet to decide on a formal position for the Labor government’s anti-corruption legislation. He said the Coalition would take a “responsible approach” to the bill and take it through the normal processes within the party room. “We want a situation where people who have committed a criminal act are held to account,” he said. He said it was important to “get the balance right” with the commission. “It’s why the fanatics within the Greens need to be treated with great caution in relation to this issue.” Who cares? They're irrelevant as of 23 May 2022. if they dont support it, its political suicide.. excellent. As if their opinion matters the cross bench is all labor needs 🙄
