Defenders of the system will tend to retort that airlines are just giving people what they want; smaller seats, they argue, are simply the price consumers have chosen in exchange for cheaper airfares. It's hard to tell how airfares have changed over time, because just looking at ticket prices isn't an apples-to-apples comparison; the average flight distance changes, and customers nowadays pay fees for things such as checked baggage and meals that once were included in fares.

What's more, air travel today offers consumers a bigger menu of choices. They can go with a discount airline and less leg room in exchange for a cheaper ticket. They can upgrade to premium seats with more space. With only limited scope to increase comfort while also keeping costs low, airlines should try to improve the flying experience by making it more egalitarian.

No ...smaller seats on Air Lines is not capitalism 'it's that you can choose which seat you pay for..where as Communism/world government totalitarism lets the very rich greenie hypocrites fly their privet jets saying all the time CO2 is pollution report that fake news SMH

I doubt people realise that they are trading smaller seats for cheaper flights. Given pricing on flights airlines don't want you to take, I think airlines couldn't care less

Indeed! You want comfort - pay for it. The seat reclines? I’m using it. If everyone reclines no one looses any space except the last row which byw is cheaper. You can also choose your airline. I no longer fly Jetstar on distances longer than 2 hrs.

Consumers don’t want DVTs ..where’s the moral responsibilities public health ? Where’s the responsibility to duty of care ? In Australian we are particularly exposed as we travel long distances Cattle car seats are paying for the privileged to have luxury travel .Noahpinion
