Disability advocates have criticised the repeated reference by health authorities to underlying health conditions when announcing COVID-19 fatalities, saying it dismisses the importance of that person's life and is tantamount to 'victim-blaming'.

Disability advocates say disclosing whether someone who died with COVID-19 had an underlying health condition dismisses the importance of that person's life and is tantamount to"victim-blaming".

But People With Disability Australia President Samantha Connor said including that information in the public announcements can be "anxiety-provoking" and is tantamount to "victim-blaming"."There was supposed to be a 1a and 1b rollout, where all of the people who were in the higher-risk category would be vaccinated. And they [the federal government] just kind of de-prioritised it and didn't worry about them," she said.

"It is obviously important that the public know that certain conditions such as diabetes, or being overweight or over 75, put you at higher risk of dying from COVID-19," Professor Duckett said.

And those who say it’s only those with pre-existing health problems. Thousands have one but don’t know it yet. Can their band actually get listed if they get covid and a chronic disease is found? Disabilities and chronic illness affect more mental health than covid ever will.

Commendable to advocate for the aggrieved and victimised. But things sometimes seem to be going to an extreme where all of us are being pushed to think ourselves as victim and aggrieved. We are reaching a point where nothing can be said without offending a group in society.

Didn’t see that coming…but it identifies reality…really appreciate this thinking…need to disturb my preconceptions…thanks for speaking out

Exactly it's shocking

I agree with them, always feel like victim-blaming when they say that

Damn straight, and all part of the 'let it rip', dog-eat-dog, survival of the 'fittest', eugenics mentality. Except not much in way of profit when thousands upon thousands are sick or dying, but at the end of the day, thinking is frivolous to flat-earth elitists.

Not to mention that a lot of the ‘underlying conditions’ were not fatal before Covid-19!

100% agree, I feel very uncomfortable when they tack that line onto the death announcements, also including unvaccinated. There could be many reasons why someone is not vaccinated and not because they are an anti-vaxxer.

Its like somehow their lives are lesser than an otherwise healthier person I’ve known many people who lead happy lives with chronic health issues It’s a blame game creating justification for Gov to shift blame & responsibility for not doing their jobs in protecting the vulnerable

What a load of BS...

Around 40% of Australians have underlying health conditions, according to this breakdown.

Doesn't everyone have an underlying condition? Nobody is born immortal. Except perhaps Keith Richards....

Being 'alive' is an underlying condition prior to being dead.

Fake COVID-19 vaccine passports for sale onlineOne user on encrypted messaging app, Telegram, told 9News he was selling counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination certificates for $500 in Bitcoin. This is alarming? The plans our govts are currently implementing in this country are alarming, the police actions against the Australian people is alarming, the publics' general lack of awareness or reaction to the fact our country is reverting to totalitarianism is alarming. Everybody's freedoms are essentially gone, including those that bowed to the Vax. People are being backed into a corner with government surveillance. Enough is enough. No wonder there is demand for these.
